The provision of domestic and international transaction data (such as credit and debit card data) to understand visitor economy related expenditure across NSW.

Destination NSW (DNSW), wider NSW Government and industry stakeholders require more usable, timely and granular data on the Visitor Economy. To address industry needs we need to source complementary data to support official data sources available via Tourism Research Australia e.g. National and International Visitor Survey data – given gaps in these sources particularly related to timeliness and reporting granularity.

Transaction data (i.e. credit and debit card data) is seen as a key data source to help understand the value of the NSW Visitor Economy, gain insight on NSW performance, and enable data driven decision making, as well as inform strategy.

The goal of the project is to provide domestic (and international) transaction data (such as credit and debit card data) to deliver data & insights on the NSW Visitor Economy. Project objectives include the provision of:

1. Timely and granular data to inform on the performance of the NSW Visitor Economy, providing the ability to:

• Identify and assess the impact of DNSW or industry related activities.
• Understand performance trends and drivers across NSW destinations.

2. Direct data access to Destination NSW.

3. Usage rights to enable DNSW and Destination Networks to share data externally.
