Diamantina Shire Council is seeking to appoint two independent Audit Committee members for a four-year term with the option to extend it once, for a further four years.

The Committee will meet at least four times a year, with meetings running for approximately two hours each time. Independent Members are entitled to be remunerated by Diamantina Shire Council per-Committee meeting, as follows:

1. For the External Member who is the Chairperson, $2,000 (ex GST);

2. For the External Member, the Deputy Chairperson, $1,750 (ex GST).

There will be a compulsory annual on-site meeting at Bedourie with all Members of the Audit Committee. The per-Committee meeting remuneration amounts are compensation for both preparation and attendance at meetings of the Committee by the External Members and other ancillary meetings. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed to independent members at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

Council is seeking:

Strong business, accounting, legal or similar background to provide additional expertise to Council.

High-level understanding of internal controls, risk management, corporate governance and a sound knowledge of information systems and related technology.

Relevant audit experience or performance and efficiency in monitoring experience.
