The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is currently undertaking a feasibility study for an expanded metropolitan ferry service. Base vessel operating parameters and functional requirements have been developed as a basis for the operation of an expanded ferry service and the PTA is now seeking feedback from the local vessel manufacturing industry relating to:

• an appropriate design for the ferries
• capability of the local industry to deliver the requested features and performance requirements for the vessels; and
• possible timeframes over which manufacturing and supply could be undertaken.

The key objective of this Expression of Interest is to seek information to assist the PTA:

a) gain an understanding of current local vessel manufacturing capability and experience with different fueling and power train options

b) develop a business case for the expansion of the Perth metropolitan ferry service

c) refine its vessel design and operating requirements; and

d) develop an appropriate procurement strategy for any future ferry vessel procurement process.
