Tender Details
Tender Description
Berri Barmera Council invites tenders from Tenderers for the provision of the removal of Sandbags from the Lake Bonney Foreshore.
The Tenderer shall provide the Services in accordance with the Specification contained within Section D of the attached Request For Tender document.
The River Murray Flood event that occurred in 2022-2023 is considered the largest flood event since 1956 and third highest ever recorded Flood in Australia.
In response, hundreds of sandbags were imported to protect Lake Bonney Foreshore and Aboriginal cultural heritage sites under declared emergency management provisions and in consultation with the River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation (RMMAC).
The materials used for the sandbags and the contents of the sandbags were inappropriate and have been left to erode. The sandbags, the material within the sandbags and the geofabric that the sandbags are resting on needs to be carefully removed without contaminating, damaging or compromising the underlying cultural heritage sites (predominantly burial sites and midden sites).
After the flood event ended in 2023, as a standard procedure, the sandbags should be removed from all sites.
- The sandbags are located on 4 sites on Lake Bonney Foreshore, which are shown on attached maps (Section D of this document);
- Refer to the scope of works at Section D of this document
The Council will enter into an Agreement for these Services with the successful Tenderer.
