The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency under the Water Act 2007. The agency’s core responsibilities include the implementation of the Basin Plan 2012 (Basin Plan) and River Murray operations under the Murray-Darling Agreement.

The authority has a workforce of over 500 comprising mostly APS staff and contractors.

Currently, the MDBA provides visibility on its organisational structure to its staff via several M365 applications and through static documents published to its internal intranet.
