Northern Areas Council owns three swimming pools, each managed by volunteer committees, with a casual employee overseeing the operations and day-to-day maintenance.

Jamestown is the largest township within Northern Areas with a population 1,389. The Jamestown Community Swimming Pool facility comprises a 25-metre length by 10-meter width lap pool, a leisure pool and toddler’s pool with all pools located outdoors. Three pools are constructed from reinforced concrete with recently upgraded fibreglass covering. The facility was built in 1927 and is now around 96 years old.

Council is seeking an options report into the feasibility of upgrading the Jamestown swimming pool and warm water pool under three options:

• Current site redevelopment - single facility for swimming pool and warm water pool
• Current site redevelopment – current swimming pool and warm water pool sites to remain separated.
• New site development
