The Department of Transport and Planning plans, builds and operates an integrated, sustainable and safe transport system for Australia’s fastest-growing state. Since 1 July 2019, VicRoads and Public Transport Victoria have been part of the Department. As the Victorian Government’s central transport agency, we are accountable for all portfolio funding provided through the State Budget.

The Planning Group manages the state's planning, building and heritage systems, including developing long-term, integrated land-use strategies and policies, administering statutory planning responsibilities and facilitating urban development. We work closely with state and local government, agencies, stakeholders and the community to achieve the department's objective of creating liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities.

The planning digital platform consists of a number of services hosted on AWS that enables the Planning function of the Organisation to complete their daily/routine tasks. The major platform services are as follows:

• Planning Schemes Online
• An online searchable presentation of planning scheme information, it includes ordinance (the text of the planning schemes), incorporated documents and maps.
• Used by the general public, councils and planning professionals
• Application Hub (multi-tenanted)
• A user interface (and API) that allows applicants to submit and track applications lodged with the department.
• It integrates with various workflow systems (e.g. Dynamics365)
• Used by the general public, referral agencies and planning professionals
• Planner Hub & Application Engine (multi-tenanted)
• A user interface (and APIs/workflow engine) that allows department planners to assess and determine applications lodged with the department
• Used by the department planners
• Data Hub (multi-tenanted)
• A user interface (and APIs) that allows data sharing between the department and other agencies/councils.
