Project goals
The Permanency Support Program has three overarching goals:
1. Fewer entries into care - by keeping families together
2. Shorter time in care - by returning children home or finding other permanent homes for children
3. A better care experience - by supporting children’s individual needs and their recovery from trauma
Scope
The Permanency Support Program aims to give every child and young person the chance to have a loving, permanent home for life, whether that be with birth parents, extended family or kin, or through guardianship or open adoption (for non-Aboriginal children).
Evidence demonstrates that a permanent, safe and loving home gives a child a better chance at leading an independent, successful life as an adult. Under the Permanency Support Program (PSP), achieving permanency for children is the priority. Caseworkers work with a child and the people who love and care for them, to identify and attain the best permanency outcome for them.
