Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regions are coming together to develop a combined Waste Strategy. A comprehensive Waikato and Bay of Plenty Waste Strategy establishes a robust foundation for future coordinated infrastructure development and enables the growth of a circular economy. Councils targeted for partnership are those sending waste to Waikato Regional landfills. This includes local government from the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regions, and Ruapehu and Gisborne Districts. The purpose of this project is to develop a Waikato and Bay of Plenty Waste Strategy that will enable collaborative, strategic projects to be carried out by partnering councils to reduce waste and carbon emissions.

This project is in two parts based on funding. Part one, the development of a waste strategy as described above, has secured funding. If Ministry for the Environment Waste Minimisation funding is confirmed, part two will include the development of a waste and waste prevention infrastructure plan for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. The data and engagement from part one (waste strategy) will flow into the development of part two (an infrastructure plan).

We are seeking a contractor to support the development of this strategy and possible plan, including carrying out data collection and analysis, facilitating and synthesising discussion among a diverse range of stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity to help support better environmental outcomes through waste/prevention planning and systems change. You would be working with several local government agencies and community groups. If funding allows for part two of the project, you will have the opportunity to work with other experts to support the development of a meaningful systems and infrastructure plan that would aim to reduce waste and carbon emissions.
