Warrnambool City Council is seeking quotations and submissions from suitably qualified and experienced consultants able to deliver a sport and active recreation strategy. The Active Warrnambool Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2025-2035 (AWS) will provide strategic direction to Council on future planning, provision, management and priorities for a range of sport and active recreation facilities and programs in Warrnambool over the next ten years.

Council has undertaken significant investment in sport and recreational-based facilities over the past decade which has seen wide ranging benefits within the community. The AWS will look to build on this work and define the strategic investments required to meet the needs of our growing community. The AWS will also inform facility provision standards that will determine the types of facilities and level of investment that is required across the network of Council owned and/or managed reserves across the city. These standards will aim to provide equity in facility provision so all residents can enjoy access to quality sport and recreation-based assets.

 Warrnambool plays a pivotal role as the Regional Centre of South West Victoria and as such services a larger catchment population of over 110,000. Residents from the surrounding catchment areas travel to Warrnambool to participate in community sports such as gymnastics, squash, hockey and archery, and as the regional centre Warrnambool also hosts significant sporting events such as the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Road Race, Warrnambool GIFT Athletics Event, AFLW Country Round, Victorian Senior Lifesaving Championships, AusCycling BMX State Series and many more.
