The Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) is seeking to expand its capability in composites manufacturing, thus requires a laser ply projector. This will complement the current capabilities

Project goals

This projector allows us to produce high-end composite parts, for sectors such as aerospace and defence. This is a common device used in all aerospace part layup workshops.

Without the laser, the accuracy of ply positioning is reliant on the operator, which is error prone. It also aids in tracking the process for thick composite parts, which further reduces errors and maintains high quality.

Having the projector could also highlight to other industries the benefits of using such a (relatively low cost) system

Scope

Supply 1 or 2 laser ply projectors capable of projecting over an area of 5.4m x 2.4m, with low curvature.

<0.5mm max error at 4m distance Minimum 2 laser colors
