National Parks and Wildlife Service is looking to engage a suitably experienced civil contractor to undertake all construction works to deliver upgrade works at the Upper Avon Road.

Project goals

The purpose of the project is to upgrade and/or maintain the existing NSW RFS designated strategic fire trail of the Upper Avon Road in accordance with NSW RFS Fire Trail Standards, Fire Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance Manual, Technical Specification Berrico Nature Reserve, and requirements as outlined within this Works Brief.

Scope

To upgrade 9.6km of Upper Avon Road from the eastern to the western boundary of the Berrico Nature Reserve. Upgrades are to meet Strategic Cat 1 requirements of the current NSW RFS Fire Trails Standards.

The scope for strategic trails includes full upgrade of all fire trails designated as Strategic under the Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC) FAFT Plan, in accordance with Section 5.2 of the RFS NSW Fire Trail Standards (Nov 2023. V2), to enable NSW NPWS to obtain NSW RFS fire trail certification and registration. Works include but are not limited to:

a) Trail width, carrying capacity, grade and crossfall repairs and upgrades

b) Construct new and restore existing passing bays and turnarounds

c) Improve trail surface to trafficable condition

d) Construct new and reinstate existing drainage where required

e) Vegetation maintenance and corridor clearing

f) Supply of imported rock/gravel/road base material
