ABOUT THE COUNCIL: The Gilgandra local government area is situated in the central west of NSW and covers an area of 4800 square kilometers, including the township of Gilgandra and three smaller villages Tooraweenah, Armatree and Curban.

Gilgandra is located on the junction of the Newell, Oxley, and Castlereagh Highways. It is 432 km north-west of Sydney and 60 km north of Dubbo and is located approximately halfway on the inland route from Melbourne to Brisbane.

ABOUT THE TENDER: Gilgandra Speedway is a 426m long racing track operated by Gilgandra District Speedway Club (GDSC) and is located on a crown land managed by Gilgandra Shire Council. The Speedway site is located 5 km to the south of Gilgandra town center. The site is fronting the Newell Highway and boarded by crown reserves and a private land. The race track envelopes majority of the site with a few scattered mature trees in the pit area.

A recent track safety inspection conducted by Speedway Australia has recommended urgent upgrades/ remedial works to the speedway safety wall, catch fence and pit gates.

Due to safety concerns with the venue, Speedway Australia has reduced the star rating of the speedway from a 3 star down to a 1 star until such upgrades / remedial works are completed.

The proposed upgrade works includes removal of the existing concrete safety wall, catch fence and the design and construction of new concrete wall, catch fence, new pit gates, reinstating existing light poles and extension to fence in the pit area.

The purpose of this tender is to engage a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to deliver the design and construction of upgrades to Gilgandra speedway that would eliminate safety concerns raised in the Track Safety Inspection Report prepared by Speedway Australia. The upgrade works are essentially expected to reinstate speedway's star ratings back to 3 stars up to 5 stars depending on the WUC that will be agreed and carried out by the successful tenderer.
