Scope of the works will include the supply and installation of a new DynaSand, or equivalent filter and lamella separator, along with the decommissioning and removal of the existing units. Connecting pipework shall be replaced as required, to install the new units and improve condition of connections. Appropriate drainage for each unit is to be installed. All components are to be supplied and installed to commission new pipework, dynamic sand filter and lamella separator. Commissioning is to be conducted by the contractor with Council representative and testing.

One system of ladder and walkways should be used to safely connect and access both sand filter and lamella separator. This is to be supplied and installed to suit the new units.

In the interests of water security, Council require the works to be programmed over the cooler months of July and August 2025. Offline works are to be aimed for July 2025. This would give an allotment of 2 weeks of offline works for removal and installation if required.

Background information / Compatibility requirements

Yarranlea is 45km South-West of Toowoomba following the Gore highway. Yarranlea WTP consists of a DynaSand continuous up-flow filter and lamella separator used in the process of treating bore water for supply to Pittsworth.

The existing infrastructure has begun to showing signs of corrosion and formation of leaks. Onsite inspections have confirmed the DynaSand filter DS5000D and lamella separator LSF60 both have reached their end of life and would result in significant costs to attempt to repair these units. Council has therefore decided to replace both.

Council is currently further studying Pittsworth water supply and requirements. To allow for this council is looking to review options of a like-for-like replacement unit vs a replacement unit specifically designed to meet our target treatment capacity.
