Tender Description

Sunshine Coast Council is seeking submissions for the construction of upgrade road works at the Old Gympie Road and Glass House Woodford Road Intersection located in Beerburrum. The intersection has had a number of safety incidents reported over the last few years and has now been identified as a location which requires safety improvements for road users and pedestrians.

Old Gympie Road is a rural road that links the townships of Beerburrum (via Beerburrum Woodford Rd), Glass House Mountains, and Beerwah. It also provides an alternative route to Steve Irwin Way, lying just to the west of Steve Irwin Way and is orientated in a north-south alignment. The road helps provide access to nearby attractions such as the Glass House Mountains National Park and Glass House Mountains Lookout. The intersection of Old Gympie Road and Glass House Woodford Road is approximately 2.3km north of Beerburrum Woodford Rd and 650m south of Marshs Road.

Old Gympie Road is classified as a Rural District Collector Street on Council’s Road hierarchy. The T-intersection consists of a curved major road with a small, 145m radius and reverse superelevation on the outside (northbound) lane. The minor road is on the outside of the curve, slightly offset from the apex. The intersection is sealed throughout its length and consists of a single lane in each direction. The lane width throughout the intersection ranges from about 3m to 3.3m. Edge lines and a minimum 0.75m wide sealed shoulder existing on the southerly section but are not present on the northerly section. Earth lined table drains feature beyond the limited shoulders.

The surrounding land is largely State Forestry land used for timber farming. A rural residential lot and an ecological reserve are located at the northwest corner of the intersection.

This works for upgrading the intersection involves a realignment of the major road, installing a channelised right turn lane, and improving flood immunity.

  •  Linemarking & Signage Works
  •  Concrete Works
  •  Topsoil & Turf Works
  •  Street Lighting Upgrade Works
  •  Utility Services Alteration Works

The successful contractor will be required to provide all materials, plant and labour to perform all necessary operations of whatever kind, to ensure delivery of the scope of works associated with this Contract.

This is a lump sum contract with an anticipated commencement of works in March 2025 and a preferred functional completion by mid-June 2025.

Council will not be holding an information session. Respondents are encouraged to visit the site to familiarise themselves with the site and project requirements.
