The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is seeking to appoint a Head Contractor who will be responsible for the replacement and upgrade of the firefighting systems including the deluge tank at hangars No. 1, 2 and 3 along with the motor transport workshops and air movements terminal.

The existing deluge tank is a steel tank with a PVC liner. The liner has failed, and the tank is only partially serviceable. The tank is also well below the required seismic standards.

The existing above ground hydrants is unable to be used by "Fire Flight" due to the type of operation and pressured used.

The Motor Transport Workshop and Air-Movements Terminals is a 30-year-old system, having its own 235m3 water tank, delivered by 2 diesel pumps through an old, antiquated steel fire main.

The pump room ventilation is not adequate, the duty pumps are old, they have obsolete motors and replacement parts are becoming difficult to source They have a number of operational issues, Hangars 2 and 3 drainage and containment systems are inadequate to cope with the fire flows.

The contractor will be working in an operational NZDF facility and will need to coordinate the works with key NZDF stakeholders
