Tender Description

Wellington City Council (Council) is seeking an experienced contractor to remediate a contaminated site on Wellington South Coast, known at Te Raekaihau Point.

Site address: 381 Queens Drive, Houghton Bay, Wellington

The remediation of this site will require about 1,000m3 of materials to be excavated, wrapped and removed from site and deposited at the Southern Landfill. The site will also require new gravel, and topsoil and some rocks to be brought to site, as well as some planting to restore the natural environment. Wellington City Council will do the planting in winter of 2025.

A Detailed Site Investigation (completed by Beca) found evidence of the following contaminants: Asbestos, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, zinc, as well as arsenic and lead. Wellington City Council have already approved the disposal of the material at the Southern Landfill.

The Council have been working with Beca to develop a Remedial Action Plan that will need to be carefully followed and implemented to ensure the works are fully compliant with the Plan.

Due to the presences of lizards on site, timing of the work is critical. Noting that the works will need to be done in March and April 2025, to allow us to remove any lizards on site, immediately before the works begin.

The relocation must occur before the excavation work begin and the excavation must start within 24 hours to the relocation of lizards has been completed. Relocation of lizards can only commence between October and April.
