Project goals
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) complete annual aerial baiting operations across NSW, over two seasons, spring and autumn. The activity is part of a broadscale feral animal management program. The program is important to manage fox and wild dog numbers to reduce predation on native animals and to meet biosecurity obligations under the Biosecurity Act. NPWS is seeking to engage one supplier to provide red meat and chicken wingettes cut to specific sizes and delivered to various locations across NSW. Specific cuts, sizes, quantities, and locationsare required. On average the yearly order will consist of approximately 400,000 pieces of meat bait products.
Scope
NPWS must ensure that an appropriate supply of meat is sourced. Meat is to be processed in a registered abattoir. Red meat can be sourced from cattle, deer, goat, sheep, kangaroo, buffalo and camel or any other species and must be contiguous pieces, at least 2.0cm - 2.5cm thick, (except for chicken wingettes) and cut to size dependent on the target species as follows:
Wild dog baits – 250g to 300g wet meat
Fox baits – 100g to 150g wet meat
Chicken wingettes – minimum 50g wet meat
In some areas of western NSW chicken wingettes will be used. It is preferred that the drumette and wingette are joined without the tip. However, any combination that includes the wingette will be accepted.
