Cairns Regional Council invites quotations from suitably qualified Contractors to assess the condition of the existing Straub coupling at the Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWWTP) and recommend a repair solution to address a minor leakage, without the need for coupling replacement.

Cairns Regional Council (CRC) has identified a minor leakage issue at a Straub coupling at the Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWWTP). The coupling is located on a 1400mm dia Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) pipe connecting the anaerobic reactor to the oxidation ditch, with the leak occurring closest to the oxidation ditch. This coupling is a critical component of the SWWTP, and failure could lead to a significant environmental incident.

CRC seeks a solution to repair the leak and ensure the continued safe operation of the facility. The council may consider repairing the existing coupling instead of replacing it, provided the repairs can ensure compliance with current standards and operational requirements.
