Tender Description
Northern Beaches Council (Council) invites tenders for the carrying out and completion of major works for Stuart Somerville Bridge Repairs, RFT 2025/026.
Northern Beaches Council propose to undertake remedial works to the Stuart Somerville Bridge which traverses Manly Lagoon at Queenscliff, NSW. A review of the condition of the bridge identified that the structure has deteriorated over time, with condition issues identified in the sub-structure, including cracking and corrosion staining of the pier columns. The proposed upgrade works is essential to remediate the damage to the bridge and manage the escalating risk.
Key features of the Project include:
- Concrete breakout to the surface layer of the four pier columns within the tidal zone, i.e. below AHD of 1.5m (concrete breakout expected to be approximately 100mm deep.)
- Re-augmentation of the affected steel reinforcement within the tidal zone to be undertaken at all locations where low-oxygen corrosion has been identified.
- Concrete reinstatement works at the break-out locations.
- Installation of an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system for the four pier columns within the tidal and splash zones, i.e. to 2.5m AHD.
- An ICCP system shall be designed, installed and commissioned from the pile cap to 2.5m AHD on the pier columns. The ICCP system must be designed with at least two vertical zones, one for the tidal zone and one for the splash zone.
- Installation of a Transformer Rectifier Unit (TRU) with cabling.
- Localised repairs to pier columns e.g., cracks.
It is anticipated that construction will commence in July 2025.
