Tender Description

Applications open for GPs with young ADHD patients to take part in a new shared care pilot

Are you a GP with one or more young ADHD patients currently being managed by paediatricians at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH)?

If so, you’re invited to take part in an exciting pilot program testing a new model of shared care. This opportunity involves online training and working closely with RCH paediatricians. Participants will earn CPD points and be reimbursed for their time.

NWMPHN and RCH have partnered with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute to create the new shared care model for ADHD treatment, reassessing the roles of GP and specialist in delivering support.

ADHD is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in children and adolescents. It accounts for 20 per cent of paediatric outpatient appointments nationally. This represents a significant workload for public paediatric health services, and contributes to long wait times for new or review appointments.

Shared care is a process that involves collaboration between patients, family, general practitioners and specialists to develop a shared understanding of the goals and interventions that make up the trajectory of care. It provides the patient with care closer to home and builds the capability of the GP to be able to manage patients with ADHD while being supported by RCH clinicians.
