Meli is in the privileged position of holding an investment portfolio, which is used to generate income to assist Meli achieve its charitable purpose. Meli's investment portfolio is valued at $44M (as of January 2025) and is Meli's largest asset category.
Oversight of the management and performance of Meli Community's investment portfolio is the responsibility of the Finance & Investment Committee, in accordance with the Committee's Terms of Reference and Meli's Investment Policy. The Committee's responsibilities include making recommendations to the Meli Community Board regarding the appointment of investment advisor(s).
Meli's investment portfolio is currently managed by a professional advisor under a discretionary management service, with investments including direct investment in domestic equities, domestic and international managed funds, fixed income and cash. To ensure continued probity over management of Meli's investment portfolio, Meli is seeking proposals from suitably qualified and aligned organisations to provide investment portfolio advisory and management services.
Meli is seeking to continue with a discretionary or active management service, which will provide the successful tenderer delegation to make day-to-day investment decisions on behalf of Meli, within the limits and asset allocation settings to reflect market conditions while remaining consistent with the objectives, risk appetite and restrictions outline in Meli's Investment Policy.
Meli are seeking services which include, but may not be limited to:
- Day-to-day portfolio management, including trading, within the restrictions and asset allocation settings outlined in the Meli Investment Policy and instructions which may be issued by Meli from time to time.
- Advice regarding investment strategies and asset allocation settings, consistent with the objectives, risk appetite and restrictions outlined in the Meli Investment Policy.
- Monthly reporting in a format to allow Meli to accurately record investment holdings and transactions in Meli's financial statements, including positive and negative asset screening.
- Regular communication with Meli staff and attendance at the Finance & Investment Committee meetings (regularly in person).
- Appropriate risk, compliance and audit arrangements.
Whilst Meli's preference is to continue with direct investment holdings managed by the successful tendered, tenderers may also propose alternative arrangements which may benefit Meli. For clarity, tenderers are requested to submit a proposal consistent with Meli's preference (i.e. discretionary or active management of Meli's holdings) and outline alternative proposals separately.
Meli will seek an initial three (3) year appointment with annual performance and appointment reviews conducted by the Meli Finance & Investment Committee.
