The Adelaide Botanic Garden is one of the most visited tourist attractions in South Australia with over 1.2 million people visiting the gardens each year. It has provided visitors with a range of cultural, recreational, educational and scientific facilities for over 160 years. The current Heritage Listed stone wall forms the Southern boundary of Adelaide Botanic Garden and, in some places, sections are in a deteriorated condition. This project provides for the conservation the stone wall on North Terrace / Botanic Road.

Adelaide Botanic Garden seeks a suitably experienced Heritage Supplier to undertake conservation repairs to the North Terrace Wall. Priority repairs have been identified within the report and based on this report approximately 80m2 of repairs will be targeted. Full requirements are identified in the Specification. These works need to be completed before 30 June 2025. This project does not require a full design or implementation component as this has already been completed.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The initial targeted areas are shown onsite between BLUE ground markings on Botanic Road footpath in several locations and an example of this is included in this Specification.

The Scope of Works includes the removal and replacement of severely deteriorated masonry to the calcrete limestone wall panels and treatment of concrete buttresses as identified on site at and as indicated in report “North Terrace Gates and Wall Dilapidation Survey & Heritage Works Plan” compiled by Habitable Places 2019 for the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Department of Environment and Water.

Previous budget estimates have been received for these works. Priority repairs have been identified within the report and based on the above budget estimate, 80m2 of repairs will be targeted.

Scope of works will include rake out and repoint the entirety of centre calcrete limestone panels exhibiting the most deterioration. It is envisaged to leave all brickwork as existing and all remaining original masonry as existing.
