We're seeking artists to express their interest in developing a new artwork for the Hero Apartment Building on the corner of Russell and Little Collins streets.

Expressions of Interest are now open for the sixth commission in the partnership series.

Stage 1

• Applicants are required to submit a short statement and up to three images.
• Please note an artwork proposal will not be required at this stage.
• Artists will be shortlisted based on the statement and images submitted as part of the EOI process.

Stage 2

• Three shortlisted artists will be paid $1000 to develop an artwork proposal.

Stage 3

• One artwork will be chosen by a selection panel chaired by the City of Melbourne and will include a member of the Public Art Advisory Panel and Hero Apartment Building Owners Corporation.
• One selected artist will receive $5000 to deliver a final artwork file.
• The successful submission will be printed and installed on the Russell Street frontage of the Hero building for approximately six-months (at the discretion of the Commissioner).

Key dates

• Applications open Tuesday 18 February at 9am AEDT
• Applications close Tuesday 11 March at 5pm AEDT
• Notifications to applicants week commencing Monday 17 March 2025
• Artwork proposal development Monday 24 March to Wednesday 23 April 2025
• Artist selected and final edits May 2025
• Artwork installation early July 2025
