Spanning a geographical footprint of 12,973 square kilometres, the Toowoomba Regional Council (Council) area is an inclusive and environmentally rich one that embraces the future while respecting the past. As part of Council’s Waste Management Strategy (2017), focus is being placed on new resource recovery techniques that enable service optimisation, increased diversion, and balancing of costs. Part of the strategy requires rationalising and securing long-term landfill capacity, while utilising best practice build methodologies.

The facility is located on land described as Lot 172 on plan SP227269 (among others). Council has committed to the third and fourth vertical expansions at the Toowoomba Waste Management Centre on Bedford Street.
