Expressions of interest are now open for eligible candidates to join the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) Panels of Assessors.
Description
Applications/nominations are now open for qualified individuals to apply for the following professional panels of assessors:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners Panel of Assessors
- Chinese Medicine Practitioners Panel of Assessors
- Chiropractors Panel of Assessors
- Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, and Oral Health Therapists Panel of Assessors
- Dental Prosthetists Panel of Assessors
- Dentists Panel of Assessors
- Medical Practitioners Panel of Assessors
- Medical Radiation Panel of Assessors
- Midwifery Panel of Assessors
- Nursing Panel of Assessors
- Occupational Therapists Panel of Assessors
- Optometrists Panel of Assessors
- Osteopaths Panel of Assessors
- Paramedics Panel of Assessors
- Pharmacists Panel of Assessors
- Physiotherapists Panel of Assessors
- Podiatrists Panel of Assessors
- Psychologists Panel of Assessors
The role of panel assessors is to assist QCAT by providing advice on questions of fact to judicial members hearing disciplinary matters relating to registered health practitioners.

Eligibility
In accordance with the Health Ombudsman Act 2013, to be qualified and eligible for appointment to a professional panel of assessors:
- The individual must not be a member of the National Health Practitioner Board (National Board) established under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Queensland).
- The individual must be registered with a National Board for the profession for which the panel is established.
- The individual must be a registered health practitioner:
-Whose registration is effective and not subject to conditions that limit their right to practice the profession.
-Who hasn't entered into an undertaking with the relevant National Board.
- The appointing authority must be satisfied that the person has sufficient experience, knowledge, skills, and standing in the profession, having regard to the functions of assessors.
The Department of Health is working with Eden Ritchie Recruitment, an independent agency, to find qualified people for 18 professional panels and a public panel of assessors. They will reach out to each nominee to let them know they’ve been nominated and invite them to apply through the public expression of interest process.

Brisbane-based assessors are preferred, but applicants from other states (interstate) or from rural areas are still encouraged to apply.
