The area between 31rd and 20rd 7 Mile is used daily by Rail Operations and Rolling Stock Maintenance during shunting and locking turnouts for wagon maintenance. It is an unsealed area that is prone to pooling and rutting after rain, requiring regular grading. When wet it creates slip and trip hazards to pedestrians due to the slippery and boggy surface and driving risks due to the slippery surface and excessive rutting.

Installing road base to the entire area before applying 2-coat seal to the roadway and vehicle turning area will provide a stable walking and driving area, making the area safer and reducing costs of ongoing grading.

Work required: 225mx18m (3350m2 recycled road base and 2230m2 2 coat seal) 100mm-150mm compacted recycled road base, 2 coat seal to the roadway approx. 7M wide, traffic management, relocate redundant infrastructure and move redundant to the side, install geo cloth where material meets ballast profile. Will require rail protection officer to supervise and staff must be supervised worker qualified to work near rail corridor.
