The University of Tasmania is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) for the creation of a public artwork for the courtyard within the Student Accommodation building at 42 Melville Street, Hobart, Tasmania.

This is a national call-out for artists. Early-career and Tasmanian Aboriginal artists are particularly encouraged to apply and will be provided support in later phases.

The key objective of this EOI is to establish a shortlist of 3 artists who will be invited to develop artistic concepts.

This project is funded through the University’s Art in buildings fund and private philanthropy.

Artist Fees and Project Stages

Stage 1: EOI only (submission information detailed in link. No fee offered in this stage.)

Stage 2: Each short-selected artist is offered $1,500 to develop preliminary Concept Designs.

Stage 3: One selected artist is offered $7,500 to collaborate with the project team to further develop their detailed design, development, community engagement, and installation.

Stage 4 and 5: Commissioned artist is awarded $10,000 artist fee with an available budget of $40,000 Production Fee (including fabrication and installation)

A detailed Artist Brief will be provided to the shortlisted artists.
